Iowa selects districts to develop teacher-leadership systems

The Iowa Department of Education has selected 39 school districts to pilot a program to develop teacher-leaders. Beginning in the 2014-15 school year, the districts will each launch systems under which teachers will take on leadership roles, collaboration will be emphasized and enhanced career opportunities will be aimed at recruiting and retaining effective teachers. "Iowans are committed to giving students a world-class education. Better utilizing teacher leadership to leverage other reforms moves us in the right direction," Gov. Terry Branstad said.
