States look to collect Internet tax this year

New York and California are the latest states to ask taxpayers to declare tax they owe from out-of-state purchases, such as those from e-commerce transactions. Several states say they expect few people to be audited over this, and New York expects the new provision to account for only $2.5 million in tax income.
