F-35B poised to begin STOVL testing

After seven years in development, the F-35B is ready to begin testing of its short-takeoff-and-vertical-landing system. The test is seen as crucial because it was the Stovl propulsion system that helped clinch Lockheed Martin Corp.'s JSF win over competition from Boeing Co.'s direct-lift X-32B.
