Barton urges FCC to let the market determine retrans

Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, the ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, in a letter, urged the FCC to let the marketplace -- and not government -- resolve the current retransmission standoff between ABC and parent Disney, and Cablevision. Barton's letter came after Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., chairman of the Senate communications subcommittee, questioned whether broadcasters should be able to remove programming feeds from cable providers, unless there is evidence of bad faith.
