Colorado teachers oppose extra teaching period

High-school teachers in a Colorado district say a proposal to add another teaching period to the school day will cut into their time for planning and working individually with students. Officials in the Aurora district say they would save $2.4 million by having the extra teaching period -- the equivalent of 20 teaching positions. The teachers union has filed a grievance with the district, alleging that the action is not allowed under teachers' contracts.
