Contractors, self-employed have access to special tax breaks

Lawmakers are considering a payroll tax holiday and other breaks aimed at spurring recovery among small businesses, but those measures will not help on 2009 tax returns. Some current tax breaks small-business owners may overlook or misunderstand include a deduction for a home office, earned income for home-based contractors and a discount for companies with only one employee.
