Representatives will urge CMS to postpone meaningful use start date

Members of Congress plan to ask CMS to extend the start date for providers to demonstrate meaningful use of health IT to become eligible for stimulus incentives, said Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga. Speaking at a HIMSS10 session, he said the deadline is too steep and that more flexibility is needed. "Flexibility is so incredibly important," said Price, who is a surgeon. "Without it, vendors and physicians won't be able to create efficiency and success in their health IT systems."
