Tenaska Illinois plant to cost $3.5B; create 2,400 construction jobs

Power plant developer Tenaska has pegged the cost of its planned 602-megawatt Taylorville, Ill., coal-to-gas-fired power plant at roughly $3.5 billion and says it will create 2,400 jobs during construction. The plant will convert Illinois coal into natural gas, then burn the gas to produce energy -- while allowing polluting greenhouse gases to be separated out first. The plant is scheduled to open in 2014.
