Ohio city council is asked to oppose fire-service merger

A resident of University Heights, Ohio, is urging the Shaker Heights City Council to reject a proposal that would form the Council of Governments and establish one fire department for the cities. Anita Kazarian says the Council of Governments would not serve residents. "Our respective elected councils will no longer answer to the voters regarding funding, management, standards and performance of fire and [emergency medical services]," Kazarian said. "Taxpayers require the right to vote their opinions. This COG removes this right."
