Lactose intolerance is not a food allergy, although many people mistakenly believe it is and needlessly avoid certain nutrient-rich foods, registered dietitian Pam Stuppy writes. People should test their tolerance for dairy products, because smaller quantities may not trigger a digestive reaction, Stuppy writes. Those who are very sensitive may want to consider using lactase pills.
