ICU study finds statins may reduce hypoxic hepatitis risk

Data from three ICUs at Austria's Medical University of Vienna showed patients given statin medications before being admitted to the units were less likely than those not on the drugs to develop hypoxic hepatitis within 48 hours after admission. Researchers reported in the Journal of Hepatology that atorvastatin and simvastatin were the most commonly used medications.
