Update: Alpacas recuperating at OSU large-animal hospital

Close to 200 alpacas, many near death when they were rescued, are recuperating at Oregon State University's large-animal hospital. Fifteen animals are in need of special care while the other 160 are housed in outdoor pens. The animals were rescued from dire circumstances at Jocelyn's Alpaca Ranch. The nonprofit Cross Creek Alpaca Rescue helped relocate the animals to the veterinary school and is working to find new homes for them. The plight of the animals sheds light on the difficult economics of the alpaca industry.
