Florida communities limit building heights to keep beaches sunny

Residents in beachfront communities around Florida are voting to approve building height limit measures to prevent otherwise sunny beaches from becoming darkened by the shadows of high-rise developments. At least nine communities in the state have passed strict height limits since 2003, and many of the limits are well below the 20- to 50-story buildings that now line beaches in places such as Miami and Daytona Beach.
