Fired teacher says district overreacted

A North Dakota teacher fired after tapping a third-grader on the head in 2006 testified Wednesday that she only meant to draw his attention back to his work, not hurt or discipline him, and has sued the district on grounds it breached its contract and wrongfully discharged her. The boy's mother said the instructor used a more forceful slap that caused the boy to cry, and school leaders said the teacher's actions were contrary to the district's corporal punishment policy.
