SUVs, pickups need tougher rollover standards, Consumer Reports says

Consumer Reports is demanding higher roof strength standards and tougher testing for pickup trucks and SUVs, citing the vehicles' tendency to roll over in an accident. The magazine says each year some 10,000 people are killed by rollover accidents, while another 24,000 people are hurt. "We think NHTSA needs to develop a dynamic rollover test, which would take into account safety features such as curtain airbags, seat belt pretensioners and other rollover protection systems," Consumer Reports tester Jon Linkov said.
