Educators win top honors from South Carolina CEC

Marshall Elementary School special-education teacher Wendy Richardson, who was named 2009 Exceptional Educator of the Year by the South Carolina Council for Exceptional Children, says she believes in building relationships with her students and empowering them to make smart choices. Emma Gallishaw, a special-education aide at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, was honored as the state's 2009 Exceptional Paraprofessional of the Year. "She is one that will go way, way beyond what's asked of her," Gallishaw's supervisor said.
