Are new smartphone entrants squeezing rivals with lower prices?

Brand reputation is becoming a tougher sell in the smartphone marketplace as new entrants such as ZTE and Huawei Technologies offer cheaper devices comparable to those of vendors who are established but don't have the brand clout of Apple or Samsung, analysts say, pointing to companies such as HTC, LG Electronics and Sony Mobile. "They are trying to make their products as similar as possible to ones from established vendors and hope the consumers will go for their cheaper smartphone," said IDC's Francisco Jeronimo, referring to ZTE and Huawei.
