Amtrak leverages record ridership to reduce dependency on feds

Amtrak plans to capitalize on its rising passenger count as a way to augment funding sources for its operations and lessen its dependence on federal funding, said Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman. However, federal assistance is still needed, Boardman said to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. "If we are to realize rail's potential, we will need much higher levels of federal capital funding," he added.
