Architects emerge as champions of "good design" for public housing

The pressing issue of how best to design large-scale public housing has prompted architects to provide solutions through "good design," writes Cathleen McGuigan, Architectural Record's chief editor. Architects have started collaborating with social scientists and government and banking officials to arrive at new interpretations of what is needed. "Whether bringing good design to large-scale public housing or devising incremental interventions in the world's most challenged settlements, these architects are making a difference every day."
