Cuts to special education could last a long time

Advocates for individuals with disabilities warn that the recent across-the-board budget cuts to federal programs will be in place for a while as lawmakers don't anticipate coming up with a budget deal to restore them in the foreseeable future. The cuts, which include $600 million to special education, have occurred as districts are developing budgets for next year, said Lindsay Jones, senior director of policy and advocacy for the Council for Exceptional Children.
