NYPD uses Facebook to try to deter youth crime

A New York Police Department division is using Facebook to try to prevent crimes before they are committed. Detectives use fake Facebook IDs to befriend and learn about troubled teens, then mount real-world interventions aimed at steering possible offenders away from that path.
