Ohio facility reaps gains from medical device, EHR integration

The Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University has seen faster quality data capture as well as improved patient safety since the facility went live in 2011 with an EMR system that integrates its 700 medical devices, the center's assistant IT director said. Devices involved in the medical device integration include ECG machines, ventilators, patient monitors and glucose monitors. A small team within the hospital's IT department also was formed to manage medical device information.
