Geographer's blog helps locate a massive landslide

Pinpointing exactly where landslides occur can be difficult, especially if they happen in remote areas. That was the case when researchers detected a massive landslide in Alaska on Feb. 16. However, the landslide was located after Durham University geographer Dave Petley posted information about it on The Landslide Blog. "I post the details and approximate location of the landslide, and we then, in effect, crowdsource finding it," he said. Petley's blog has been up and running for about eight years.
