U.S. ready to go it alone on Russian sanctions

At the same time the U.S. is trying to give Russian President Vladimir Putin an easy exit from Crimea, it is readying unilateral economic sanctions on businesses and individuals while trying to persuade European partners to do the same. Secretary of State John Kerry also has announced a $1 billion aid package to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Rep. Edward Royce, R-Calif., the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, urged immediate sanctions against Russia. "We must place crippling sanctions on Russian high-ranking officials, state-owned banks and commercial enterprises," Royce said, "and key individuals behind the Russian intervention."
