A U.K. newspaper reports that Safeway is focusing solely on food for its English customers. The grocery retailer is taking plastic wrap off vegetables and fruit and creating theatrical food service operations in an attempt to excite consumers. Safeway's CEO Carlos Criado-Perez says to lure customers, "we have to be smarter. That means selling more fresh and serviced goods. We make higher margins and more money from that and invest that in the prices in the aisles."
