Hawaii to explore options with biotech coffee, crops

Lawmakers in Hawaii have set aside a bill to ban the cultivation of biotech coffee. Instead, they plan to commission a study into biotech crops. Some coffee growers believe this development may affect Kona coffee blends, which are only grown on the state's Big Island. Others, however, say that biotech coffee would not affect Kona since they would be cultivated on another island and may even boost the economy.
