New landscaping to take Palm Springs back to desert roots

Officials at Palm Springs (Calif.) International Airport plan to feature native plants in the airport's landscaping in an effort to emphasize its desert locale and to conserve both water and money. Rather than lush green lawns and flower beds that require constant watering, the Palm Springs Architectural Advisory Committee wants to create the feel of a desert oasis. The Desert Water Agency estimates that native plants could cut water consumption by 50% to 75%.
