Food choices can affect immune-system function, mood and energy, as can sleep and exercise, says registered dietitian Heather-Ann Younker of Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. Younker says meeting food recommendations doesn't have to mean a restrictive diet, just one that includes a variety of fruits and vegetables, complex carbohydrates and water for proper hydration.
