Alaska's Anchorage School District has implemented a math program that aims to give children more flexibility in choosing problem-solving methods. Students in the program are exposed to alternative problem-solving methods as well as traditional ones. "The way you think of a math problem may be very different from the way I think of it," said Bobbi Jo Erb, school district administrator. "And if either one of us is forced to do it one specific way, we are going to lose all of that education that came before."
