Federal lawmakers weigh standards for vending machines

The U.S. Congress may extend nutritional standards to school vending machines and a la carte lines to address the growing problem of childhood obesity. Many of the 83% of elementary schools and 99% of high schools that serve candy and soft drinks depend on the revenue for after-school programs.
