Mayors conference pushes for federal jobs program on New Deal scale

The U.S. Conference of Mayors is pushing the federal government to fund a jobs program akin to the one begun under Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal. Mayors say when federal money is directed to local governments, big public-works projects -- including road repairs and sewer improvements -- can get a quick start.
