After a year of massive capital raising, REITs are likely to pull back from the equity markets, says Jason Lail, SNL Financial senior industry analyst, real estate. The debt markets have opened for most REITs now, he says. Going forward, equity offerings are likely to be driven by opportunities -- not to shore up a balance sheet. "More equity offerings are certainly not out of the question, especially if there are assets or even companies available for acquisition at decent pricing in 2010," he says.
