Analysis: Japan faces demographic challenges

Some experts say Japan is headed for demographic trouble as its population ages and birth rates decline. "[A]s Japanese women create and establish their independence in a traditionally male-dominated society, they choose intentionally to marry later (if at all) and refrain from having children until later in life," said Peter H. Liotta of Salve Regina University. Other countries in the developed world are dealing with similar demographic issues as their populaces get older, he said.
