Butamax gets U.S. patent for isobutanol-production enzymes

Butamax Advanced Biofuels has secured a patent for ketol-acid reductoisomerase enzymes that are designed to lower the cost of biobutanol production. The enzymes were developed using a process invented by the company. "With these new KARI enzymes, we have achieved a significant improvement in performance, which is necessary for low-cost commercial production of biobutanol," Butamax CEO Paul Beckwith said in a statement.
