Food environment isn't tied to obesity, study finds

A study of 13,000 California children found no link between local food sources -- such as fast-food restaurants and supermarkets -- and what children ate or how much they weighed. The lead researcher said transportation may explain the lack of a connection, because people who drive everywhere are not dependent on the food options in their neighborhood. The findings were published in the Journal of Preventive Medicine.
