Does DNA marking of military chips make sense?

The Defense Logistics Agency's requirement that all chips it buys must have DNA marking adds unnecessary costs and fails to really solve the problem of counterfeit chips in the military supply chain, Lee Mathiesen of Lansdale Semiconductor asserts in this opinion piece. Mathiesen serves as chairman of JEDEC's JC-13.2 subcommittee.
