Seattle-area family files what could be first U.S. BSE lawsuit

The family filed suit against Quality Food Centers, claiming the supermarket chain did not adequately notify consumers that ground beef they had bought may have been contaminated by BSE. The suit includes allegations a Quality Food Centers butcher assured the family the chain hadn't sold any contaminated beef and contends the supermarket didn't do enough to warn consumers they might have purchased contaminated beef. The company was not available for comment.
