Republicans push to link highway funds for states to amount drivers pay in gas tax

As Congress prepares to debate the $286 billion transportation bill this week, Republicans are leading an effort to link the amount of funds a state receives for road projects to the amount drivers in that state pay in federal gasoline taxes. The plan would likely result in reduced highway funds for areas including parts of the Northeast and the West and increases in funding for the South.
