White House to retain delayed deadline for ICD-10 adoption

The Obama administration intends to continue with a plan to push back compliance for two rules the HHS issued during then-President George W. Bush's last days in office. One policy calls for moving the deadline for the replacement of ICD-9 with ICD-10 codes from Oct. 1, 2011, to Oct. 1, 2013. The other rule requires revisions to HIPAA requirements for electronic transactions, and the deadline will be pushed back from Oct. 1, 2010, to Jan. 1, 2012.
