Apple sets April 3 to unleash iPad in U.S.

Apple on Friday confirmed rumors that it will introduce its iPad in the U.S. on April 3 and begin taking orders Friday, with the Wi-Fi plus 3G models going on sale later in the month. While Apple's online site will sell all models, its retail stores will take orders for just the Wi-Fi-only product, a device that starts at $499 for 16GB of storage compared with the Wi-Fi plus 3G model priced at $629 for 16GB. U.K. consumers will have to wait until late April to buy the tablet.
