Everyday Mathematics is credited with improvement of D.C. math scores

A math curriculum adopted in 2005 for students in grades K-6 in Washington, D.C., schools is being credited with helping students develop a deeper understanding of math concepts and improve their scores on standardized tests. Officials adopted the Everyday Mathematics curriculum that was developed by the University of Chicago and aims to make math more relevant for students, who practice their skills frequently with games. Research on the curriculum is inconclusive, and some critics say Everyday Mathematics does not give students a sufficient grounding in computational skills.
