A union representing 55,000 flight attendants is urging the FAA to mandate hand-to-hand combat training as a way to increase safety on commercial flights. "For better or for worse, once the cabin doors close, the flight attendants are the last line of defense," says a spokeswoman for the Association of Flight Attendants. The group also wants hand-held communication devices, standardized carry-on limits and more leeway in shutting down wireless Internet connections. "We just want more tools to make the plane safer," the union says.
