NBCT objects to remarks of state schools chief on national certification

A Louisiana National Board Certified Teacher says she was insulted by state education Superintendent Paul Pastorek saying that earning certification does not mean teachers were effective. Mary Jo Kelly writes in this letter to the editor that Pastorek and other officials likely have little understanding of the certification program. "Having coached graduate-school and bar-exam students, I know that national board certification is far more rigorous than other certification processes," she writes. "I challenge our state leaders to prove their competence in their positions as we educators have."
