FAA furlough notices were premature, lawmakers say

In a letter to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, top Republican lawmakers on the House and Senate transportation committees called furlough notices issued to Federal Aviation Administration employees "premature." The lawmakers also say their request for more information has been ignored and want to know why. "We are disappointed that this is the route that the FAA and the Administration has chosen to take, rather than sharpening their pencils and finding cost savings in other areas," wrote Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., and Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa.
