Franchise expansion could boost commercial real estate market

The commercial real estate market is struggling to fill retail space left empty during the recession and franchise expansion could help jump-start demand, Joe Gose writes. Franchises are projected to add 162,000 jobs in more than 10,000 new units this year, including 3,000 restaurants, according to the IFA. Gose cites Colorado-based Smashburger and Lansing, Mich.-based Two Men and A Truck as examples of rapid job creation through franchise expansion.
