Highland Hospitality continues upscale urban strategy

Highland Hospitality Corp.'s acquisition of the 240-room Melrose Hotel in Washington, D.C., for $77 million is the latest move in its strategy to buy upscale hotels in top urban markets. In December, the hotel REIT purchased the 144-room Churchill Hotel, also in Washington, for $48 million, and it now owns more than 20 hotels in 11 states, Washington and Mexico.
