Government approves power line expansions, despite opposition

The Energy Department last week officially denied requests to challenge a previous decision that would allow for more power lines in designated areas in the Southwest and mid-Atlantic states. The agency plans to expand and modernize the electric grid in what it calls National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors, despite the opposition of various local and state officials.
