Virginia's General Assembly approves NCLB opt-out bill

Virginia's House and Senate late last week signed off on a bill mandating that the Virginia Board of Education explore opting out of NCLB. Should the board recommend a withdrawal, the bill directs it to present a plan for doing so to the state by mid-2009. The bill requires the signature of Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine to become state law.
