Freeway, rail projects may receive stimulus funding in San Diego

San Diego County will use funds that it receives from the economic-stimulus package for large, shovel-ready transportation projects, officials say. Two freeway projects and a light-rail improvement project are expected to win the majority of the funding. Officials expect heavy competition from area contractors once the county formally identifies the projects. Jim Ryan, executive director of the San Diego branch of Associated General Contractors of America, noted that large jobs in the area can attract up to a dozen bidders.
