Insurers expand diabetes outreach to at-risk members

Health insurers are going beyond helping members manage their diabetes, reaching out to at-risk people who may not know they even have the disease. UnitedHealth Group's Diabetes Health Plan has built-in preventive care incentives that target the cost of treating diabetes. Aetna brought its disease management program in-house to help patients manage all of their health conditions, and Health Care Service Corp. uses obesity as a gateway to diabetes intervention and management.
